Spotlight on Nigerian Army’s Operational Gains in Rescue, Counter-terrorism

The Nigerian Army has demonstrated significant achievements during the period from July to the first week of September, with operations encompassing rescue missions, arrests, patrols, ambushes, and weapons recovery across various theatres. Among the notable rescues, 21 kidnapped individuals were saved in Kogi State on August 31, comprising 15 National Youth Service Corps members who had been abducted while traveling from Abuja to Bayelsa State.

In the Kainji Lake National Park area, 308 people were rescued through a joint security effort involving multiple agencies in August. Furthermore, 25 victims were rescued in Katsina and Zamfara, highlighting the Army's commitment to combating kidnapping and other threats. These operations, driven by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu's operational framework, emphasize intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition, reconnaissance, and joint operations in response to Nigeria's evolving security landscape.

The Army, in collaboration with other security agencies, conducted a total of 7,062 operations across the country, neutralizing 1,487 terrorists and insurgents, arresting 354 suspects, and rescuing 777 kidnapped victims. The focus on weapons recovery and disruption has also been a key aspect of the Army's efforts, with recent activities including the seizure of an RPG launcher and an AK-47 rifle in Zamfara, and the interception of 793 rounds of ammunition in Kaduna, aimed at disrupting the supply of arms to criminal elements.
