Smoke pours from EV car at Pathum Thani market

PATHUM THANI — On the morning of September 9, 2026, dense smoke emanated from beneath an electric vehicle (EV) at a market parking lot in Lam Luk Ka district. Firefighters were promptly dispatched to the scene, but fortunately, no injuries were reported. The incident unfolded around 5:30 AM at Nana Charoen Market, located in Khukot subdistrict, Pathum Thani province.

The Thai police were alerted to the vehicle fire by officers from Khukot Police Station. Fire trucks from both Lam Sam Kaeo and Khukot municipalities, along with emergency personnel, arrived at the location. The vehicle in question was a BYD Seal EV, registered with the Bangkok license plate 7 ขฉ 2279, belonging to a resident named Bancha.

Upon arrival, officials found the smoke continuously billowing from underneath the vehicle and its rear section, causing alarm among shoppers and nearby residents. Firefighters used water to attempt to control the situation. Bancha himself was present at the scene. He had planned to travel to Bangkok for a business errand and had fully charged the vehicle before departing from his residence near Nana Charoen Market. After a quick stop for breakfast at the market, Bancha returned to the car to continue his journey.

As he parked his vehicle, Bancha noticed a battery warning symbol flashing on the dashboard. He had intended to take the EV to a service center in Khlong Song, which was scheduled to open at 8:00 AM, so technicians could inspect the vehicle before he proceeded to Bangkok. However, upon returning to his car after shopping, Bancha was astonished to see a significant amount of smoke emanating from under the vehicle and its rear section.

The smoke appeared to be originating from the area where the battery pack is housed. Acting swiftly, Bancha immediately activated the vehicle's emergency brake and exited the car before the smoke intensified.

The exact cause of the incident remains unclear. Fire officials noted that the smoke seemed to be originating from the rear section of the vehicle, specifically the region where the battery is installed. Technicians from BYD's service center have been notified to conduct a thorough examination to determine the cause of the incident.
