Shaping the future of aerospace

The Technion – Israel Institute of Technology has unveiled the Max and Desiree Blankfeld Endowed Prize for Transformative Innovation in Aerospace. This prize, made possible by a generous donation from Max and Desiree Blankfeld of Houston, Texas, aims to acknowledge outstanding contributions in aerospace engineering and promote global collaboration. The Technion's Stephen B. Klein Faculty of Aerospace Engineering, which oversees the prize, is Israel's sole dedicated aerospace engineering faculty, recognized worldwide.

The prize alternates annually between two categories: a Distinguished Leader Award for senior researchers who have significantly influenced the field, and an Early Career Award to support emerging scholars, including research residencies at the Technion. Recipients engage in lectures, joint research, and close interaction with faculty, fostering innovation and mentorship.

Max Blankfeld's connection to the Technion dates back to his own studies there in Aeronautical Engineering. After transitioning to a career in foreign correspondence and business, he founded successful ventures in PR and consumer goods in Brazil and the US. This year's inaugural prize will honor an internationally distinguished aerospace engineer or scientist, with candidates chosen for their scientific achievements, leadership, and impact in aerospace or related fields.

The Stephen B. Klein Faculty of Aerospace Engineering plays a pivotal role in Israel's scientific and technological progress. Established in 1954, it is the only dedicated aerospace faculty in Israel and a renowned research center. Ranked 21st globally in Aerospace Engineering by the 2025 Shanghai Ranking, the faculty's interdisciplinary approach spans aerodynamics, structures, propulsion, astronautics, and more.

Specialized facilities such as wind tunnels, jet-engine laboratories, and high-performance computing support theoretical, computational, and experimental research.

Graduate students benefit from this dynamic environment, with MSc, PhD, and professionally oriented ME programs conducted in English.
