Russian strike on Ukraine-Moldova border kills two

A Russian drone strike targeted a checkpoint along Ukraine's border with Moldova, resulting in the tragic loss of two civilian lives, according to Odesa regional governor Oleg Kiper. The attack occurred at the Starokozache international road checkpoint, leaving a trail of debris and forcing its closure. The checkpoint, situated approximately 500 kilometers south of Kyiv, was left without personnel after the strike, which tragically took the lives of two individuals and wounded three others.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident, Ukrainian forces launched a drone attack on Russia's Novorossiysk city, resulting in the deaths of four people, including a child, and injuring 29 others. Russian authorities reported shooting down 596 Ukrainian drones during the preceding night, despite ongoing efforts from US President Donald Trump's envoys to facilitate a resolution to the conflict in Ukraine.

Despite recent diplomatic efforts, including talks between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin, as well as visits by US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, a significant breakthrough in ending Europe's deadliest conflict since World War II has yet to be achieved. However, Zelensky expressed cautious optimism about the possibility of resuming direct talks between Russia and Ukraine in the coming weeks.
