Rubio Hopes For Progress On Resuming Russia-Ukraine Talks “In The Coming Weeks”

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio expressed optimism about developing a framework to resume negotiations between Russia and Ukraine within the next few weeks. During a visit to Colombia, Rubio emphasized that the talks involving the US president's special representatives in Moscow and Kyiv were substantive, as new ideas were discussed.

However, he stressed that no significant progress toward compromises has been observed from either side, as both maintain clear red lines. The US secretary of state expressed hope that these meetings would facilitate the resumption of talks mediated by the United States. He stated that he does not want to be overly optimistic, but is not pessimistic either, believing that there is an opportunity in the coming weeks to create a roadmap for negotiations and potentially reach a conclusion acceptable to both sides.

Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy indicated a possibility of holding a trilateral round of talks between the US, Ukraine, and Russia, following a meeting with US negotiators who conveyed that the Russians are ready for talks.
