Republic closes case against Adu-Boahene, two others

The Republic has concluded its investigation into Kwabena Adu-Boahene, the former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau (NSB), and two other individuals. The charges against the accused include theft, money laundering, and causing financial loss to the State over the alleged misuse of GH¢49.1 million. The Republic's case was based on the claim that Adu-Boahene, aided by his wife and a company, diverted and spent the money for personal gain.

However, Adu-Boahene's defense argued that the money was spent on acquiring a cyber defense system for the State agency.

During the trial, four witnesses testified. The first witness, a family driver, described running errands for the accused and transporting large sums of money. The second witness, Edith Adumuah, the Head of Finance at NSB, testified that the names on cheques differed from those on the bank account used for depositing funds. The third witness, Mildred Donkor, alleged that Adu-Boahene used a company, along with family members and associates, to spend the funds.

The fourth witness, Frank Marshall Cromwell from the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO), presented evidence including cheques, deposit slips, bank statements, and documents related to properties acquired by Adu-Boahene.

Following the closure of the Republic's case, the court gave the accused a deadline of September 25, 2026, to present their submissions of no case to answer. The Republic will respond within 14 days following service of these submissions. The case has been rescheduled for further proceedings on November 5, 2026.
