Ramchander Rao accuses Congress, BRS parties of ignoring people’s problems

On September 9, 2026, the Congress party alleged that around 3,260 unregistered political parties (RUPPs) had received political donations and evaded income tax by a staggering amount of ₹10,000 crore. Congress MP Shaktisinh Gohil stated that these parties were being used as a conduit to convert unaccounted money into legitimate political donations through round-tripping and other methods.

He also accused the government of failing to take action on this issue, despite it being raised in a 2025 report. Gohil's party general secretary, Jairam Ramesh, later claimed that these 3,260 parties were allegedly operating under the "patronage" of the BJP. He questioned the identity of those behind these sham political parties and the mastermind of the alleged tax scam.

The Congress party highlighted that the Income Tax Act provides tax benefits on donations to registered political parties, but these provisions were being misused by these RUPPs. They demanded a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) investigation into the donation scam, citing the potential for a penalty of 200% for those found guilty, along with potential criminal proceedings.

The Congress also called for public disclosure of donation details for these bogus parties and information on individuals linked to them who later joined the BJP. Gohil alleged that no action had been taken against any person despite the alleged tax evasion exceeding ₹10,000 crore and questioned the Election Commission's role in scrutinizing the funding and expenditure of political parties.
