Radda presents N828.6bn 2027 budget to Katsina Assembly

Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has introduced a proposed N828.64 billion 2027 budget to the State House of Assembly. This budget signifies a reduction of N69.23 billion, or 7.71 per cent, compared to the approved 2026 budget. The proposed budget, dubbed "Building Your Future IV," allocates N637.91 billion, or 76.98 per cent, towards capital expenditure and N190.73 billion, or 23.02 per cent, to recurrent expenditure.

Radda presented the budget, emphasizing that the reduction was based on a realistic evaluation of anticipated revenue and expenditure. He noted that the government had analyzed available funding sources to maintain fiscal stability and minimize the risk of revenue shortfalls. The budget was also influenced by the Citizens' Budget Exercise conducted on July 18, 2026, across all 361 wards of the state.

Each ward is expected to receive a special project based on residents' preferences, guiding interventions in agriculture, MSMEs, WASH, women's empowerment, environment, climate change, and security.

In terms of the 2026 budget performance as of August 28, Radda reported that total capital and recurrent expenditure reached N295.19 billion, indicating a performance of 32.88 per cent. Recurrent revenue, including the opening balance, amounted to N267.47 billion, representing 44.16 per cent, while capital receipts reached N116.41 billion, or 39.84 per cent. Recurrent expenditure stood at N102.17 billion, accounting for 59.64 per cent, while capital expenditure was N193.02 billion, or 26.57 per cent.

Radda expressed confidence in improved budget implementation in the remaining months of 2026. Major infrastructure projects included urban renewal in Katsina and Funtua, construction of the Musawa-Gingin-Tabanni Road, Kunduru-Kadanya Road, Daura Western Bypass, housing projects, and the supply of 30 hybrid buses. The governor acknowledged ongoing challenges in security, education, healthcare, water, sanitation, and infrastructure, but assured that the government would continue to address these issues through community-driven interventions.
