President Sisi, Greek PM discuss Egypt-Greece power link, regional issues

President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis met in Alaman, Egypt on Tuesday to discuss a proposed electricity interconnection project between their nations, highlighting the potential for boosting energy security. During Mitsotakis's official visit to Egypt, the two leaders also addressed various cooperation areas, including tourism, transport, labor, migration, and trade and investment ties.

They explored joint work opportunities in telecommunications, information technology, artificial intelligence applications, and entrepreneurship.

President Sisi expressed his appreciation for the strong historical ties between Egypt and Greece, emphasizing that enhanced collaboration would benefit both countries' mutual interests and solidify their strategic partnership. The Greek Prime Minister reciprocated with gratitude for Egypt's hospitality and expressed his country's desire to deepen bilateral relations with Egypt within the trilateral cooperation framework involving Egypt, Greece, and Cyprus.

The Egyptian president and Greek prime minister also discussed regional and international developments, stressing the necessity to minimize escalation, ease tensions, and foster stability. They highlighted Egypt's endeavors to promote regional peace and stability, while Mitsotakis commended bilateral cooperation in addressing irregular migration and terrorism. Discussions on the situations in Libya, Syria, and Lebanon underscored the importance of preserving freedom of navigation along international waterways.

Both sides reaffirmed the significance of maintaining the Gaza ceasefire, with Mitsotakis acknowledging Egypt's efforts, and Sisi asserting that achieving enduring regional peace and stability necessitates establishing an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
