Preity Zinta addresses Batwara 1947's box office stumble: 'I give my 1000 per cent'

Preity Zinta returned to acting after a period of absence, but her latest film, Batwara 1947, failed to gain significant traction at the box office. The actress, along with co-stars Sunny Deol and Shabana Azmi, appeared in the ensemble cast adaptation of Asghar Wajahat's play, Jis Lahore Nai Vekhya, O Jamya E Nai. Set against the backdrop of the 1947 Partition, the story revolves around Sikandar Mirza (Sunny Deol) and his family as they navigate the complexities of a house in Lahore occupied by Durgavati (Shabana Azmi), a woman waiting for her son's return.

The political scheming of Abhimanyu Singh's character adds an additional layer of tension to the already fraught situation. Despite the film's high production budget of ₹150 crore, it managed to gross only ₹38.80 crore domestically, receiving mixed-to-negative reviews upon release. Zinta, while not disappointed by the outcome, emphasized that her role was to give her all to her character on set, understanding that the result was beyond her control.

The actor's perspective on the matter was encapsulated in her belief in karam - that hard work and dedication are the only things one can truly influence, leaving the outcome to fate. Looking ahead, Zinta will be seen in the spy comedy Vibe, directed by Kunal Kemmu, where she plays the lead role of an operative who helps two friends thwart a terrorist plot. The film is set to release on September 18.
