Poor officiating destroying Ghana footnall – President Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has called on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ghana Referees Association to enhance officiating in domestic leagues, warning that poor refereeing is eroding the popularity of Ghanaian football. The President emphasized the issue during a visit by Nations FC and Medeama SC to the Jubilee House, following their qualification for CAF inter-club competitions.

He highlighted that the standard of refereeing in the country is a significant factor affecting the development and competitiveness of Ghanaian football. "Unfortunately, refereeing is one of the things destroying our football," Mahama stated. He urged both the GFA and the Referee Association to work together to improve the standards of refereeing and regain the confidence of supporters.

Mahama noted that the perception of predetermined outcomes has led to a decline in stadium attendance, with some fans losing confidence in the fairness of matches. He stressed the importance of ensuring fair officiating so that victories are earned through merit. The President believes that improving the standard of refereeing will make domestic leagues more competitive, draw back supporters to the stadiums, and ultimately restore confidence in Ghanaian football.
