Oshawa funeral home destroyed by fire deemed suspicious, police say

An arson investigation is underway after a fire at a funeral home in Oshawa was determined to be suspicious, according to Durham Regional Police (DRPS). The incident occurred at Mcintosh-Anderson Funeral Home on King Street East near Ritson Road South early Wednesday morning. Paramedics were the first to respond to the scene, alerted by the smell of smoke.

However, by the time firefighters arrived, the building was already engulfed in flames. Fire officials stated that the structure had to be demolished to guarantee public safety. There were no reported injuries during the incident.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but DRPS officials disclosed that "based on initial findings, it is believed the fire started under suspicious circumstances." In an update released on Wednesday, police emphasized that the fire was deemed suspicious. The funeral home issued a statement through its website, expressing concern for the safety and well-being of its families, staff, and the community.

The statement also mentioned that personnel from Mount Lawn Funeral Home and Cemetery were assisting in addressing inquiries and concerns arising from the fire.
