Okpella Council Canvasses Peace, Dismisses Akemokue’s Claims

The Okpella Traditional Council in Etsako East Local Government Area of Edo State has encouraged residents and the public to maintain peace and disregard what it perceives as recurring false narratives surrounding the Okuokpellagbe traditional stool. The council's spokesman, Chief Hanson Aimofumeh, addressed journalists on Wednesday in response to a viral post by Lukman Akemokue, who continues to claim the title of Okuokpellagbe despite pending appeals regarding the traditional stool.

Aimofumeh emphasized that the community should strive for "peace and progress, not recurring campaigns of falsehood, self-promotion and unfounded claims". He asserted that Mike Sado is the recognized Okuokpellagbe of Okpella and continues to receive community support and recognition from relevant authorities. Aimofumeh noted that the dispute over the traditional stool is currently before the courts, with appeals from the High Court judgment awaiting determination by the Court of Appeal.

He urged all parties to allow the judicial process to proceed and not engage in public campaigns that could escalate tensions within the community. Aimofumeh dismissed allegations against Mike Sado concerning a recent stakeholders' meeting convened by the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, describing them as unsubstantiated.

He stated that the council's traditional institution under Sado has consistently promoted peace, security, and development in Okpella and appealed to all stakeholders to support initiatives fostering harmony rather than deepening divisions. The spokesman reiterated the council's commitment to working with government and other relevant institutions in the community's interest.

Akemokue has filed a cross-appeal in the matter pending before the Court of Appeal, arguing for the respect of the legal process until a final decision is reached. The council spokesperson appealed to residents to remain law-abiding and avoid actions or statements that could undermine peace in Okpella, reiterating that the council's priority is the unity, dignity, and development of the kingdom.
