Obi, Alia lock horns over blocked Benue visit

The Benue State Government has denied being aware of Peter Obi's visit to the state, according to Alia's press secretary, Kula Tersoo. Obi was in Benue to meet families affected by the June 2025 massacre, but his convoy was stopped by youths along the Gboko Road. Tersoo stated that the government had no knowledge of his arrival and criticized the security agents for not providing adequate protection for the presidential candidate.

The NDC governorship candidate in Benue, Prof. Terhemba Shija, claimed that the state authorities had been informed of Obi's visit, and both the police and Department of State Services were present to ensure his safety. Shija also noted that the Independent National Electoral Commission had lifted the ban on campaign activities, allowing Obi to conduct his political activities without permission. The Benue State Police Command confirmed that they were aware of Obi's movement in the state.
