NOUN appoints acting bursar after Marafa’s murder in Zamfara

The National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) has appointed Mrs Ramatu Ibrahim as Acting Bursar following the tragic murder of her predecessor, Mallam Nasiru Gusau Marafa, in Zamfara State on September 6, 2026. Registrar Mr Oladipo Ajayi made the announcement in an official statement released by the university's Directorate of Media and Publicity in Abuja on Tuesday.

Ajayi stated that the appointment aimed to maintain continuity in the university's financial administration and would remain in effect until further notice. The appointment, effective from September 8, 2026, received approval from Vice-Chancellor Prof Uduma Uduma and Pro-Chancellor Malam Isa Yuguda.

Ibrahim, who served as Deputy Bursar, Treasury before her new role, has extensive experience in financial operations. She has worked in various operational units of the Bursary Department and possesses expertise in accounting, financial management, treasury operations, and related administrative processes. Ajayi highlighted that Ibrahim's experience as Deputy Bursar, Treasury, involved leading and overseeing treasury operations at the university.

Marafa was described as a dedicated, dependable, and committed officer who served the institution with professionalism and integrity. Management expressed gratitude for Marafa's contributions to financial administration and institutional development. The Vice-Chancellor expressed full confidence in Ibrahim's integrity, diligence, and expertise, congratulating her on the appointment and urging the university community to offer her full support during her tenure. Ajayi urged the university community to extend cooperation and support to the Acting Bursar.
