Nicht für alle wird's teurer: Kfz-Versicherung: Neue Regionalklassen für 2027

Starting in 2027, nearly one quarter of vehicle owners (23.5%) will see changes to their regional insurance classes in Germany. This was announced by the Allianz of the Insurance Industry (GDV). Around 5.2 million motorists in 63 districts can look forward to improved regional classes. However, nearly 4.8 million motorists in 46 districts will be moved up to higher classes.

For the majority of vehicle owners (over 32 million in 304 districts), nothing changes as the classes from the previous year still apply. The annual calculation is based on where the most or most expensive damages occur. For example, the registration districts of Elbe-Elster and Prignitz in Brandenburg, Ludwigslust-Parchim in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Cochem-Zell in Rhineland-Palatinate, and Lüchow-Dannenberg in Lower Saxony have particularly good damage records and therefore more favorable class assignments.

The Elbe-Elster district in Brandenburg can boast the best damage record in vehicle liability insurance nationwide, with damages being about 33% lower than the average. High regional classes are often found in densely populated areas. According to GDV Managing Director Jörg Asmussen, large cities often perform worse than rural regions.

The poorest record, as in the previous year, is Offenbach, closely followed by Gelsenkirchen and Berlin. Here, damages are up to 39% above the federal average. New classes also apply to full and partial insurance. Overall, there are only minor changes. In full and partial insurance, 2.4 million insured people will move to lower classes, and another 2.4 million will be assigned to higher classes.

However, for most of the 38 million partial insurance holders, nothing changes. Roughly 33 million full or partial insurance holders will still have the old classes applied. This represents almost 87% of all partial insurance holders. In principle, the better the regional class assignment, the more favorable the insurance premium, although this is still influenced by other parameters.

The regional classification is based on the insured's place of residence and not the location of any damage. The GDV's regional statistics are non-binding for insurance and will be applied starting from the next insurance year for both new and existing policies.
