NEPL/Seplat Energy JV commissions 2 STEAM Laboratories in Asaba, trains additional 500 teachers

The NEPL/Seplat Energy Joint Venture (JV) has significantly enhanced education in Delta State by commissioning two state-of-the-art Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) laboratories at Asagba Mixed Secondary School and Zappa Basic Secondary School in Asaba, Delta. This strategic investment comes from the JV, reflecting their commitment to the future generation through quality education.

Esther Icha, General Manager of Corporate Social Investment & Social Performance at Seplat Energy Plc, explained that the labs were designed to promote practical, student-centered learning. Students will not only learn theoretical concepts but also apply knowledge through experimentation, design, and problem-solving.

The implementation of these labs is part of the JV's efforts to improve education quality and prepare students for a rapidly changing world. The Director of External Affairs & Social Performance, Chioma Afe, highlighted that these labs would provide students with opportunities to build confidence and solve real-life problems.

Responding to the commissioning, Dr Kingsley Ashibuogwu, Delta State Commissioner for Secondary Education, praised Seplat Energy for its ongoing investment in education and other sectors of the state. He encouraged students to utilize the facilities effectively and not be afraid of failure, reminding them that many great inventors experienced numerous setbacks before achieving success.

Hon. Bridget Anyafulu, Member Representing Oshimili South Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, commended Seplat Energy for donating these labs to schools in Oshimili South. Stella Ajufo, Principal of Asaba's Adagba Secondary School, expressed gratitude to both the Delta State Government and Seplat Energy for selecting her school as a beneficiary.

Ajufo assured that the laboratory would be put to effective use, with seven teachers from her school already trained in the use of the lab equipment through the JV's STEP workshop. These trained teachers will now share their knowledge with other educators in the school, ensuring broader utilization of the facility.
