NCA clears three firms for next stage of Ghana’s 5G spectrum licensing

The National Communications Authority (NCA) in Ghana has moved three telecommunications firms forward to the subsequent stage of the nation's 5G spectrum licensing procedure. The other applicant, Infrava Ltd, was disqualified. The successful companies are Scancom Plc (MTN Ghana), Ghana Telecommunications Company Limited (Telecel Ghana), and Goal Telecommunications Ltd. The National Communications Authority (NCA) stated that four companies submitted their applications before the 5 p.m. closing on August 27, 2026.

These applications then underwent an eligibility review and technical evaluation. The NCA announced on Wednesday, September 9, that Infrava Ltd did not satisfy the qualification prerequisites. All four applicants were notified of the outcome, with explanations given where necessary. The three approved companies will now enter Stage 3 of the selection procedure, which pertains to spectrum licenses in the 700MHz, 2.3GHz, and 3GHz bands.

The sealed Envelope B submission from the disqualified firm will not be scrutinized. The qualified applicants will soon be informed about the date, time, and location for the opening and ranking of their Best Price Offers. This marks the end of the qualification phase of the NCA's Request for Applications for the allocated spectrum bands, setting the stage for determining which of the three qualified companies will be granted spectrum for the deployment and growth of advanced mobile communication services in Ghana.
