Navy arrests fake officer, suspected robber in Anambra

The Nigerian Navy has made arrests in Anambra State, apprehending a suspect believed to be an impersonating naval officer and an alleged armed robber during separate security operations at a checkpoint in Awkuzu, Oyi Local Government Area.

Commanding Officer Commander Kabir Yusuf disclosed that the first suspect, identified as 37-year-old Brooms Anthony from Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, was intercepted with a Nissan Atlas truck carrying household items. During a routine security check, naval personnel discovered an identity card suggesting Anthony claimed to be a member of the Nigerian Navy. Upon interrogation, the suspect failed to present convincing evidence supporting his claim, resulting in his arrest for impersonation.

In a separate operation, naval personnel detained 36-year-old Christian Ogbole from Eziagu, Enugu State, after intercepting a Suzuki minibus registered as RNN 573 XA. The vehicle was allegedly being used to transport stolen property following a complaint from a trader whose shop had recently been burgled. Items recovered from the minibus included solar batteries, a solar fan, solar lights, a controller, a disco light, and solar cable wires.

The trader was later satisfied that the recovered solar equipment matched his description and was returned to him. Other recovered items included pry bars, mobile phones, car keys, petrol, rubber slippers, and a power bank. Yusuf emphasized that the arrests demonstrated the Navy's commitment to preventing criminal activities and pledged ongoing collaboration with other security agencies to bolster security across Anambra State.
