Nach der Landtagswahl: BSW geht in Sachsen-Anhalt in Gespräche mit AfD

After the state election in Sachsen-Anhalt, the BSW intends to engage in talks with the AfD about possible cooperation. A spokesperson for the party told the German press agency, "The BSW's leadership in Sachsen-Anhalt unanimously decided to remain loyal to its line and seek dialogue with all parties in the new Landtag." The meeting with the AfD will focus on issues such as energy supply, education, and peace policy.

Until now, representatives of the CDU, SPD, Greens, and Social Democrats have rejected the AfD's invitation to talks. BSW leader Thomas Schulze criticized these decisions, saying, "We consider the other parties' rejection of dialogue as poor political behavior and a bad sign for democratic culture in our country." The formation of the government in Sachsen-Anhalt after the state election is complicated.

The AfD received by far the most votes and thus a clear victory. However, no single party managed to win a majority alone. The AfD announced that they would invite all parties represented in the Landtag to preliminary talks. The new Landtag has 83 seats, with the CDU holding 15, SPD and the Social Democrats and Greens each 8, and the BSW gaining its first seats in Magdeburg with 5 representatives. The AfD fell three votes short of an outright majority.
