MiCo completes NEM Energy acquisition amid AI-driven gas power boom

MiCo Group has finalized its acquisition of Dutch power equipment manufacturer NEM Energy, strategically positioning itself for the growing demand in gas-fired power plants. The surge in artificial intelligence (AI) and data centers is placing significant pressure on electricity supplies, particularly in North America. MiCo's subsidiary, Hyundai Heavy Industries Power Systems (HPS), completed the payment for acquiring NEM Energy, officially concluding the deal.

The company aims to merge NEM Energy's engineering expertise and extensive customer base with HPS' extensive manufacturing capabilities to bolster its standing in the gas-fired power sector, with a focus on the North American market. The acquisition aligns with the increasing need for reliable energy sources to support the rapid expansion of AI infrastructure.

As electricity demand surges due to the construction of data centers for generative AI and cloud services, utilities and developers are increasingly relying on gas-fired generation to ensure stable power alongside renewable sources. Leading gas turbine manufacturers, such as GE Vernova and Siemens Energy, are also experiencing growth in this domain.
