Man hospitalised after being attacked by wild boar in Bahawalnagar

BAHAWALNAGAR: A critical condition farmer was hospitalized after being ambushed by a wild boar while safeguarding cotton fields in Fort Abbas. Muhammad Ahmed, the affected farmer, recounted the incident to Dawn, stating he was suddenly targeted by a wild boar while guarding the cotton fields at Chak No 254/HL on the night of September 7th.

He was promptly transported to the THQ Hospital, where he remains under treatment. Villagers revealed this marks the third wild boar attack on nearby farms within a brief span. Residents have called upon the wildlife department and pertinent authorities to address the wild boar population and rescind the hunting ban. They further requested the administration to provide complimentary medical care for individuals injured in encounters with wild animals.

A senior wildlife official disclosed that during the summer season, boar herds occasionally infiltrate agricultural lands under the cloak of darkness in search of sustenance and might resort to attacking any individuals present. Consequently, farmers are advised to remain in close proximity to their crops in groups of two or three.

The official noted that although previously lawful, killing these boars was now prohibited by a 2025 law. In a separate tragic incident, a motorcyclist and his son perished when struck by a speeding tractor-trolley, while their daughter sustained serious injuries. Rescue 1122 reported that three family members were en route to Bahawalnagar on a motorcycle when the speeding tractor-trolley from the opposite direction collided with them.

As a result, 58-year-old Iqbal and his 15-year-old son Bilal lost their lives instantly, whereas Iqbal's 22-year-old daughter, Zarina, was airlifted to the DHQ Hospital in a critical state.
