Malibu Sinkhole Threatens to Swallow Hollywood Star Nicolas Cage's House

A large sinkhole has emerged in Malibu, California, threatening to engulf the home of Hollywood actor Nicolas Cage. The driveway at the front of the property, believed to belong to the actor, has already fallen into the cavity. This occurred after heavy rainfall in the region triggered a 30-by-30-foot sinkhole. Initially, when the hole was about 8 feet wide, residents reportedly did not feel overly concerned, believing it could be quickly fixed.

However, by Tuesday morning, the opening had expanded to around 30 feet, prompting emergency services to be called due to a gas leak. The widening of the sinkhole caused the home's driveway to collapse, rendering the property unsafe for entry, according to Malibu City officials. At least five homes on the street were deemed unsafe, with access to the area limited and the road collapsed in significant parts.

Nicholas Cage acquired the property two years ago for $10.5 million. The house is built on stilts rooted into the oceanbed, and its precarious position is attributed to powerful waves and heavy rain following a hurricane warning. There have been no reported injuries due to the damage. Cage recently stated that it's perfect his latest project, Spider-Noir, will only get one season, having expressed his thoughts on the canceled Prime Video animated Spider-Verse show.
