Lee says his term is 'clearly limited' amid constitutional revision debate

South Korean President Lee Jae Myung has stated that his term is clearly limited due to the constitutional revision debate, according to a report from Paris. The president made this remark during a meeting with Korean residents in France on the final day of his four-day trip to the country, which was also a summit with French President Emmanuel Macron.

Lee emphasized that he has scheduled numerous overseas visits during the early stages of his presidency in order to maximize the benefits of his diplomatic efforts. He explained that since his term is constitutionally limited, the impact of his overseas diplomacy can only be extended if he begins these trips early. These comments come in the wake of recent suspicions raised by opposition party lawmakers that President Lee may be seeking reelection through a constitutional revision.

However, it is important to note that the Constitution explicitly states that any changes to the presidential system will not apply to the president currently in office at the time of the revision. Both the president and his ruling Democratic Party have been advocating for a constitutional revision that would transition the system to a four-year, two-term presidential system.
