Lagos APC kicks off campaign, says Tinubu’s re-election in national interest

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State has officially launched its campaign for the 2027 general elections, invoking prayers to affirm that the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is of national importance. Tinubu is credited for achieving expectations as Nigeria's leader, while also delivering on his campaign promises across various sectors.

The campaign began with an interfaith prayer ceremony at the Mobolaji Johnson Stadium, Onikan, Lagos, where representatives from different faiths joined in praying for Tinubu, Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, his deputy and candidate, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, and other APC hopefuls. Among the attendees were APC leaders and high-ranking officials, including Governor Sanwo-Olu, Hamzat, Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, the Interfaith Committee Chair, Oyinlomo Danmole, APC State Chairman Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, Governance Advisory Council Leader Prince Tajudeen Olusi, Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker Mudashiru Obasa, as well as former Finance Minister Wale Edun, Senator Ganiyu Solomon, and former Speaker Yemi Ikuforiji, among others.

The event was marked by enthusiastic support from party members, who came clad in various outfits, displayed banners, and drummed in solidarity with the party. Clerics took turns to offer prayers for the candidates, Nigeria, and for peaceful elections. Methodist Bishop Stephen Adegbite led the Christian delegation, praising the harmonious coexistence between Christians and Muslims in Lagos.

He remarked, “You are the first deputy governor to contest for governor. You will be there,” addressing Dr. Hamzat. Governor Sanwo-Olu emphasized that the commencement of the campaign with prayers reflected the party's trust in God, but stressed that the APC would pair these prayers with diligent work and mobilization. He stressed the party's commitment to supporting Tinubu’s re-election, urging party members to approach the presidential campaign with dedication.

He also expressed confidence in Hamzat's election as governor, alongside his running mate, Damilola Seneyon-James. Dr. Hamzat echoed similar sentiments, expressing optimism about the APC's victory, attributing it to the party's decision to entrust its affairs to God. He affirmed, “We are sure that we will be victorious because we have handed everything to God.”
