Ana María Fuentes, the head of the PSOE, has blamed the Secretariat of Organization, led by Santos Cerdán, for the payments made to those involved in the so-called Leire Díez case, according to several legal sources quoted in her declaration as an accused party. The top Socialist official told Judge Santiago Pedraz that she was only responsible for approving the execution of the payments and did not decide on the content of the contracted works or supervise their completion.

Fuentes defended her actions as the party's financial manager in the investigations into the alleged plot led by former militant Leire Díez and Cerdán, the former Secretary of Organization, which supposedly sought to "destabilize" judicial processes that threatened the party and the government led by Pedro Sánchez.
