Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital hails Ghana Medical Trust Fund for GH¢4m medical equipment

The Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) has lauded the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (GMTF) for their generous contribution of over GH¢4 million worth of medical equipment and consumables. This donation exemplifies the Trust Fund's dedication to enhancing healthcare delivery at KATH, as if the organization had been established to serve Ghana for an impressive 70 years within just one year of operation.

The items presented include a complete Olympus endoscopy tower, two jaundice meters, and diverse respiratory, oxygen therapy, and anesthesia consumables. These were part of a larger shipment gifted to the Trust Fund by Lifecare Technology Ghana.

The administrator of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund, Adjoa Obuobia Darko-Opoku, lauded the impact of the Trust Fund's activities in marking its first anniversary, expressing their readiness to do more. She noted how KATH's urgent need for an endoscopy system and essential consumables led to the allocation of these resources to the hospital. The Administrator also commended the hospital's Board, CEO, management, and staff for their unwavering support for the Trust Fund since its inception.

KATH's CEO, Dr. Paa Kwesi Baidoo, explained that the existing endoscopy machine had exceeded 10 years of use and that the management had previously allocated an estimated GH¢800,000 towards a replacement. With the Trust Fund's recent assistance, the hospital can now allocate funds to other essential services, ensuring premium care for the Ghanaian population.

The CEO referenced the hospital's ongoing cardiac intervention center construction as another notable Trust Fund intervention, fulfilling a long-standing dream that had not previously been realized.

Overall, the Trust Fund's first year in KATH has yielded significant strides in addressing longstanding gaps in specialized healthcare delivery, providing additional capacity to serve patients seeking critical care at the hospital.
