Umno faces a dual sentiment at its upcoming Agong's Conference — celebrating victories and grappling with dissatisfaction among members. Controversies surrounding recent PRN Johor and Negeri Sembilan successes may paint Umno as the harbinger of a 'blue wave' revival. However, concerns over controversies linked to Barisan Nasional (BN) governance, particularly the Tabung Haji and Felda schemes, could fuel discontent among Umno members, potentially pressuring the party to oust BN from power.

Despite this, Umno leadership appears keen to steer clear of political repercussions, prioritizing other matters as the party's confidence soars post-victories in Johor and Negeri Sembilan. Razlan Rafii, Deputy Secretary to President Zahid Hamidi, emphasizes that Umno will not target Pakatan Harapan (PH) allies, as the true competition lies in winning voter allegiance.

Umno's achievements suggest a deeper understanding of voter priorities, particularly economic and social issues. In Johor, where BN secured 48 out of 56 parliamentary seats, Razlan notes that voters responded positively to BN's regional governance, hoping for similar success at the federal level. Consequently, Umno will focus on regaining strength rather than opposing PH allies.

The party's continued presence in government remains a priority for now. Umno's highest-ranking minister, Nur Jazlan Mohamed, believes the party should not rush changes to its stance, instead moving cautiously while supporting the federal government. The upcoming Agong's Conference, held from September 9 to 12, may be the last opportunity for Umno-PAS dialogue before the 2016 general election, posing challenges for future political cooperation dynamics.

Azmi Hassan, from the Nusantara Academy, anticipates that the conference will primarily focus on Umno's preferred cooperation forms ahead of the general election, potentially determining the party's stance prior to the polls.
