Kaita urges Eagles to turn W’Cup pain into AFCON drive

Former Nigerian Super Eagles midfielder Sani Kaita has called upon his country to transform their World Cup disappointment into a driving force for success in the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). According to PUNCH Sports Extra, Kaita believes Nigeria possesses the necessary talent to qualify for and challenge for the continental title in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.

"As Nigerians, we expect the Super Eagles to showcase their strength and secure a spot in the AFCON," Kaita stated. Nigeria will kick off their qualification campaign against Madagascar on September 25 in Uyo, followed by a match against Guinea-Bissau on September 29. They will compete in Group L alongside Madagascar, Guinea-Bissau, and Tanzania, the latter of which has already clinched a spot.

Kaita, who has played for Nigeria in the 2010 World Cup and the 2006 and 2010 AFCON tournaments, emphasizes that qualifying is merely the first objective. "While qualifying is essential, the Eagles should aim to compete for the AFCON title," he added. The team is set to embark on a new competitive phase under the guidance of coach Eric Chelle.

Kaita hopes that the disappointment of missing the World Cup will spur the Super Eagles into a robust qualifying campaign and a formidable challenge for the AFCON crown.
