Elvis Alvardo (4-3) entered the ninth inning and sealed the deal with two strikeouts before forcing a flyout, earning his sixth save of the season. Toronto's rookie Kazuma Okamoto went hitless in three at-bats and struck out three times.

Despite his struggles, Okamoto remains in the lead in the MLB's rookie home run race with 30 home runs on the season. The Athletics' victory marks their sixth win in eight games and their first series win against the Blue Jays since July 2025. The Blue Jays find themselves 1 1/2 games behind Cleveland in the AL wild card race. The Athletics will kick off a series against visiting Seattle on Friday, with left-hander Jeffrey Springs (4-13, 6.02 ERA) set to start the opener. The Seattle Mariners have yet to announce their starting pitcher for the series.
