Presiden PAS Hadi Awang has called for the repeal of all colonial-era laws, especially those hindering Islam from challenging human-created legislation deemed unlawful by Allah due to its numerous flaws. In a recent statement from the PAS President's notes, Hadi emphasized the limitations of the Syariah Criminal Procedure Act 1965 (Act 355), which restricts the implementation of more severe Islamic criminal punishments.

Under the 1984 amendment, the discretionary power of the Syariah Court for discretionary punishments is capped at three years imprisonment, a maximum fine of RM 5,000, and a maximum of six times that fine, which is punitive rather than rehabilitative, as stipulated by Islamic law. Hadi also referenced the views of Ahmad Ibrahim, a lawyer advocating for a more comprehensive interpretation and reinforcement of Islamic constitutional stature.

He proposed that the position of Islam in the Federal Constitution be interpreted and expanded as a comprehensive way of life, rather than solely as a limited religious ritual. Additionally, Hadi cited the views of other scholars urging the comprehensive repeal of the 1956 Civil Law Act to prevent the nation from being fully bound by British common law, alongside proposing constitutional amendments that would invalidate any legislation conflicting with Islamic principles.

Article 4 of the Constitution designates the constitution as the supreme law of the land, and any law conflicting with constitutional principles can be annulled. Therefore, the full implementation of Shariah criminal law necessitates broad constitutional amendments at the parliamentary level.
