Großbritannien: Polizei ermittelt wegen möglicher Auslandsspenden an Reform UK

British police have launched criminal investigations against the far-right Reform UK party over alleged violations of rules prohibiting foreign donations, the London Metropolitan Police announced on Wednesday. The suspicion arises from a covert Channel 4 investigation last week which seemed to show two senior party officials discussing how money from an American benefactor could reach the party via the party's son living in the United States.

British election law only allows parties to accept donations from British voters or companies registered in the UK. Reform UK suspended the two officials. Party leader Nigel Farage denied the charge, stating his party had not violated British election law. However, the police see indications of potential criminal offenses that need to be investigated. The party's dodgy donations could turn out to be its undoing.
