Greater Accra crowned 2026 Literacy Challenge champions

Team Greater Accra secured the title of champions in the 2026 Channel One TV and Citi FM Literacy Challenge following an intense final round. The victorious Greater Accra team, consisting of Neriah Gyamfi, Jenelle-Abrielle Ofori and Sarah Augusta Akosua Otoo, amassed 88 points to claim the ultimate prize. They demonstrated impressive performance throughout the competition, which began with a strong regional placement after defeating the Upper East Region 58–45 on Day One.

The Northern Region claimed the first runner-up spot with 85 points, while the Bono Region secured the second runner-up position with 68 points. The Volta Region finished in fourth place with 64 points. The Top Four line-up was determined after the Eastern Region withdrew from the Mega Challenge with 35 points, closely followed by Volta and Bono with 36 points each.

Greater Accra and the Northern Region were locked in a tight race, with both teams ending the stage with 38 points. The final round proved to be the decisive test, with Greater Accra maintaining their composure to emerge victorious and lift the championship trophy. The competition involved 30 young contestants aged between 11 and 15, representing various regions across Ghana.

They had earned their spots after excelling in the Level II Aptitude Test and the essay stage. The 2026 Literacy Challenge, organized by Channel One TV and Citi FM, saw the winning team receive a total cash prize of GH¢15,000, with each member taking home GH¢5,000. They also received a trophy, certificate, gold medal and laptop.

The overall individual winner would receive an additional GH¢5,000, bringing their total cash prize to GH¢10,000, along with a special plaque. The competition recognized outstanding individual performance and critical thinking, creativity, teamwork and effective communication skills.
