Govt to help firms set up childcare in NM: Chris Sun

Labour and Welfare Secretary Chris Sun announced the government's support for businesses establishing childcare centres in the Northern Metropolis, as part of efforts to boost family-friendly policies amid a declining birth rate. In an interview with RTHK's Vision 15: Hong Kong's Chapter, Sun proposed that childcare facilities in the Northern Metropolis could emulate the Airport Preschool's model, which caters to airport personnel.

Sun acknowledged that these centres must adhere to specific regulations but emphasized the government's readiness to assist companies wishing to launch childcare services for their employees. The Northern Metropolis, known for its industry focus and presence of a university town, has a population of educated, skilled individuals, potentially necessitating unique childcare requirements.

Sun indicated that firms with the capacity to run their own childcare centres would receive comprehensive support from the government. Additionally, while the broader city's focus will be on offering varied childcare alternatives, particularly for toddlers under two, Sun noted the possibility of parents preferring centres located near their workplaces for convenience in picking up and dropping off their children.
