HONG KONG: China’s yuan rose against the US dollar on Wednesday, hovering near a 3-1/2-year peak as better-than-expected inflation data and quicker export growth buoyed the currency.
TOKYO: Yields on shorter-dated Japanese government bonds fell on Wednesday, as the stronger yen dimmed bets on the Bank of Japan’s aggressive rate hikes. The two-year yield, most sensitive to the BOJ’s policy, fell 1 basis point to 1.835%. The five-year yield fell 1.5 bps to 2.22%. Yields move inversely to bond prices.
MUFG’s Michael Wan highlights ongoing strength in the Japanese Yen, with recent USD/JPY volatility seeing the pair drop toward 152.88 before stabilizing near 153.26.
On MCX, the yellow metal contract for the October delivery traded higher by ₹190, or 0.12%, at ₹1,52,769 per 10 grams in a business turnover of 635 lots.
