‘GMA Weekend’ Taps Rachel Scott, Rhiannon Ally for New Anchor Teams

ABC News is introducing a new anchor format for "GMA Weekend", with Rachel Scott and Rhiannon Ally set to co-anchor the Saturday and Sunday editions, respectively. The change takes effect on September 12 and 13, with Scott and Whit Johnson sharing the Saturday anchor duties, while Ally joins Gio Benitez on Sundays. Leslie Lopez will continue her role as meteorologist for both editions.

This transition comes five months after Janai Norman's departure from the weekend broadcast, following ABC News's decision not to renew her contract. Johnson, who has been part of "Good Morning America" on weekends since 2018, will also continue anchoring "World News Tonight," a role he has held since 2021. Benitez, who joined "GMA Weekend" in 2023, will maintain his position as ABC News' transportation correspondent.

Scott will retain her role as senior political correspondent, while adding the Saturday anchor assignment. She joined ABC News in 2016, initially working for "GMA Digital" before transitioning to on-air roles and advancing within the network's Washington bureau. Ally, who joined ABC News in 2021, most recently co-anchored "World News Now" and "Good Morning America First Look".

She has also filled in on "Good Morning America" and "GMA3". The new lineup will extend to streaming platforms, with Johnson, Scott, Benitez, and Ally rotating as anchors of "ABC News Live Weekend," airing at 10 a.m. ET on ABC News' 24/7 streaming channel. ABC News Live is accessible on Disney+, Hulu, and the ABC News app. The new anchor team will also appear more frequently on weekday editions of "GMA", which airs at 8 a.m. ET on Saturdays and Sundays.
