Ghana’s economy grows 6.0% in Q2 2026, first-half growth hits 6.2% – GSS

Ghana's economy expanded by 6.0% in the second quarter of 2026, marking a slight slowdown from the 6.1% growth recorded in the same period last year. The first-half growth for 2026 reached 6.2%, according to the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS). Non-oil GDP continued to perform well, growing by 5.4% in the second quarter and 5.9% for the first half of the year.

The services sector, particularly information and communications technology (ICT), drove much of the economic expansion, with services growing by 8.0% and ICT expanding at an impressive 30.9% in the second quarter. This sector accounted for 57.6% of overall GDP growth during the period. The industrial sector expanded by 4.3%, bolstered by a strong rebound in oil and gas production, which grew by 21.4% in the second quarter.

However, the broader industrial sector grew at a more moderate pace, indicating uneven expansion across productive activities. Agriculture recorded a growth of 3.9% in the second quarter, lagging behind the more robust performance of services and ICT. Investment and domestic demand also rose significantly, with investment increasing by 53.0% and domestic demand growing by 11.2%.

On a quarter-on-quarter basis, real GDP increased by 1.4%. The data highlights Ghana's continued economic resilience, driven largely by services, ICT, oil and gas production, and investment. The growth, however, remains concentrated in certain sectors, posing a policy challenge to ensure broader-based growth that translates into stronger employment and household incomes.
