Ganeshotsav 2026: Panvel Municipal Corporation Holds Shadu Clay Idol-Making Workshop To Promote Eco-Friendly Celebrations

Panvel, September 9, 2026 - The Panvel Municipal Corporation held a workshop on Wednesday to teach students how to make Ganesh idols out of natural Shadu clay, as part of their ‘Utsav Ganrayacha, Jagar Paryavaranacha’ initiative. The purpose was to promote eco-friendly celebrations during the Ganeshotsav festival and give students practical experience in crafting idols from environmentally friendly materials.

According to PMC Deputy Commissioner Swaroop Kharge, the environment department plans to hold similar workshops at various locations to raise awareness among citizens about sustainable celebrations. The initiative, under the ‘Majhi Vasundhara Abhiyan 7.0’, was attended by students who learned about the significance of celebrating Ganeshotsav responsibly, the ecological benefits of Shadu clay idols, and the importance of minimizing environmental harm during the festival.

Students engaged enthusiastically in making Ganesh idols from Shadu clay during the workshop. Notable attendees included PMC Assistant Commissioner Balaram Ratambe, Pillai College Principal Dr Gajanan Vader, Pillai Dean of Student Life Prof Deepika Sharma, and several others. The civic body is encouraging children to create Ganesh idols at home and install them to develop a sense of environmental responsibility in the younger generation.

The PMC emphasizes that while Ganeshotsav is a festival of faith and culture, protecting the environment is equally important, urging citizens to adopt eco-friendly practices during celebrations. Participants also took the Majhi Vasundhara environmental pledge, resolving to contribute to environmental conservation. The PMC called on citizens to actively participate in environmental protection by opting for eco-friendly Ganeshotsav celebrations.
