Former TH chairman Abdul Azeez to face remand proceedings, charges today

Former Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim will appear in the Sessions Court on September 9 for remand proceedings under Section 420 of the Penal Code, according to his lawyer, Datuk Abu Bakar Isa Ramat. Abdul Azeez was arrested by the Bukit Aman Commercial Crime Investigation Department on September 8 and taken to the Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters.

The police will seek a remand order, and he is also set to be charged before Judge Azura Alwi for alleged offenses under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act, reported earlier this week. The former TH leader and a former Treasury Secretary General were granted seven days to assist investigations following the release of the Royal Commission of Inquiry (RCI) report on TH on July 29.

The report criticized TH's management and operations from 2014 to 2020, recommending a forensic audit of past investment decisions and identifying several troubled investments that required forensic audits. Suspicious transactions and concealment of information were also found during the RCI investigation, which covered TH's management and operations from 2014 to 2020 and examined findings by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), Ernst & Young (EY), and Roland Berger. However, the report excluded TH's restructuring and recovery plans being implemented at the time.
