Former Enhypen member Evan breaks silence on cancer battle when he was a child

South Korean musician Evan, whose real name is Lee Hee-seung, has shared his first-hand account of surviving cancer as a child. The 24-year-old, who was diagnosed with malignant lymphoma at the age of 10, revealed his battle in an interview with Weverse Magazine.

Evan's symptoms began with persistent coughing, but he initially dismissed them as a cold. However, while playing soccer, he found himself unable to breathe after just a few steps. It was later diagnosed as cancer.

Throughout his treatment, Evan's mother provided unwavering support. Despite his fear, Evan performed in talent shows alongside other hospital patients, harboring dreams of becoming a pop star. He admitted that at just six years old, he dreamt of being a singer, but then, his focus was more on the present moment.

Evan's time on the hospital ward was marked by the loss of his fellow patients to the disease. He recounted the emotional struggle of watching friends die and feeling an intense desire to survive. He explained, "I wanted to live so badly, I wanted to go home."

After completing treatment, Evan faced the challenge of returning to school, where he was bullied due to his chemotherapy hair. He detailed the bullying experience, saying, "I had less energy, and because my hair was still growing back, I was teased a lot."

Evan chose not to discuss his cancer battle publicly until now, admitting, "I haven't thought about that in a long time. It hurts to bring it back up." However, he indirectly referenced his cancer experience in his song "Death Of Me."

In March, Evan left Enhypen to pursue a solo career. In a letter to fans, he reflected on his time with the group, explaining that he had been working on personal material but had held back to avoid overshadowing Enhypen's activities.
