Fate Therapeutics at Cantor conference: autoimmune CAR-T push advances

Fate Therapeutics discussed its cell therapy platform and autoimmune CAR-T programs at the 12th Annual Cantor Fitzgerald Global Healthcare Conference. The company highlighted its low-cost master cell bank model and the autoimmune program moving toward a possible registrational path. Fate's master cell bank can produce over 10 million doses, compared to roughly 500 doses from donor T-cell approaches, making cell therapy more uniform, scalable, and affordable.

The current 40,000-square-foot manufacturing facility can support 50,000 doses, with the potential to produce more than 50,000 batches. The cost of goods is about $3,000 per dose, significantly lower than other CAR T products. Fate aims to treat nearly 100 patients across oncology and autoimmune disease with no unexpected safety issues, maintaining a favorable safety profile.

The lead program, FT819, targets lupus nephritis and is in an open-label, single-arm Phase II study with 53 patients planned and 45 needed for analysis. The primary endpoint is a six-month complete renal response. Early data from FT819 shows a more than 1 gram per gram reduction in UPCR, with 1.8 grams per gram reduction in a bendamustine-enriched group.

Another program, FT839, is a dual-targeted CD19 and CD38 CAR T program, with IND clearance and first patient anticipated within months. Fate's approach reduces manufacturing bottlenecks and eliminates variability seen in traditional manufacturing, ensuring consistent safety and efficacy across disease areas.
