Factbox-Foldable iPhone, pricier 18 Pro unveiled in Apple’s first event under Ternus

Apple unveiled its first foldable smartphone, iPhone Duo, and the iPhone 18 Pro line-up during its first event under new CEO John Ternus. Duo, a passport-shaped device, opens into a 7.6-inch display with a 5.4-inch outer screen, allowing two apps to be open simultaneously. Powered by Apple's A20 Pro chip, Duo features a vapor-chamber cooling system to enhance on-device AI performance, graphics processing, and battery efficiency.

The device supports Apple Pencil, uses Touch ID integrated into the side button, and is thinner when open. Priced starting at $1,999, it offers up to 2 terabytes of storage, a feature not available on rival foldable models. Pre-orders begin on October 16, with a sale date of October 23. Apple also introduced the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, priced at $1,199 and $1,299 respectively, due to increased memory chip costs.

Both models feature the new A20 Pro chip, a 48-megapixel main camera with a variable aperture system, and Apple Reference Image, a photo-authentication standard. Ternus emphasized privacy as Apple's key differentiator in the AI era, positioning the iPhone as an intelligent personal hub that runs AI services on-device. The company launched new Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 models, along with a new generation of AirPods starting at $129, featuring active noise cancellation for the first time.
