CSSPS doesn’t need overhaul, review policies behind system – Adutwum

Former Education Minister Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum has criticized the notion of blaming the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) for issues related to school placement. In an interview on The Pulse on JoyNews, Adutwum argued that any concerns should instead prompt a review of the policies and algorithms that govern the placement software.

According to Adutwum, the computer system merely executes instructions provided to it, and therefore should not be the focal point of any modifications. He emphasized that changing the outcome of the placement process necessitates a re-evaluation of the policies that direct the system, rather than simply replacing or adjusting the computerized platform.

Adutwum stated that the computer is not responsible for the decisions made by the placement algorithm, as it lacks human judgment. Instead, he suggested that attention should be directed towards the software development process and the policies that shape how the placement algorithm functions. The Education Minister believes that any review of the CSSPS should prioritize examining the rules and policies that underpin the system, as these are the key elements that require attention.
