Community leaders call for 24-hour operation of African Mall in Ejisu-Kwamo

Leaders of Ejisu-Kwamo have urged the management of the newly opened African Mall to consider running the mall 24 hours a day. They argue that this move would generate more jobs, boost economic activity and give residents more access to goods and services. The authorities welcomed the mall, predicting it could revitalize commercial activities in the community.

So far, it has provided employment for nearly 100 individuals, contributing to local revenue through taxes. Alhaji Nji Abdallah Umar, the Ashanti Regional Security Coordinator, stated that talks are underway with management to align the mall with the government's 24-hour economy policy. He expressed satisfaction with the mall's impact on job creation, noting that residents see nearly 100 people gainfully employed and paying taxes.

Umar suggested that extending the mall's operating hours would further benefit the community by providing more access to services and creating additional job opportunities. Bao Jian Wen, the mall's Operations Manager, revealed that the decision to locate the facility in Ejisu was driven by its growing population and potential for business development.

Despite many shopping centers being in bustling urban areas, Ejisu holds significant potential for new retail investments. He highlighted Ejisu's strategic location, noting that while Kumasi, Ghana’s second-largest city, is a major investment hub, Ejisu offers unique opportunities outside the city center. Bao emphasized the mall's suitability to capitalize on the rising commercial activities around Ejisu.

Community leaders remain optimistic that the management will take their proposal into account, asserting that a 24-hour operation could further enhance employment and stimulate economic growth in the area.
