Coal India-arm NCL output rises as rains ease

Coal India's subsidiary Northern Coalfields Ltd (NCL) has seen a significant rise in coal production as the monsoon rains subside, according to a statement released on September 8. On that day, NCL's daily coal production jumped by 67 percent to 0.30 million tonnes (MT), and supplies increased 75 percent to 0.35 MT. These figures marked a stark contrast to the rain-affected averages recorded from September 1 to September 3, which were 0.18 MT for production and 0.20 MT for supplies.

For the fiscal year 2026-27, NCL's total coal production had reached 51.43 MT, with supplies totaling 55 MT as of September 8, showing a substantial recovery from the operational difficulties caused by heavy rainfall.

NCL's focus on maximizing production and improving coal supply reliability intensified as the monsoon receded. The company reported that its rake loading through Indian Railways had reached 41 rakes on September 8, up from an average of 19 rakes per day during the first three days of the month. Major coal shipments were directed towards power plants in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan, highlighting NCL's pivotal role in meeting regional energy demands.

The company emphasized its commitment to converting the improved mine conditions into higher production rates, faster coal dispatches, and more dependable coal supplies.
