Celtic extend flawless start to Scottish title defence

Celtic sealed a flawless start to their Scottish Premiership title defence with a 1-0 victory over St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park. The decisive goal came from German midfielder Mika Baur in the 52nd minute, his first since joining Celtic from Paderborn in the summer. Celtic boss Martin O'Neill showcased the depth of his squad, with Camilo Dura, Benjamin Nygren, and Kieran Tierney coming on as substitutes.

Defender Cameron Carter-Vickers was also given the night off due to a minor injury. Despite not being at their best, Celtic secured their 13th consecutive league win this season, stretching back to the latter part of last season. Celtic currently lead the table by five points over Rangers, who they will face again at Celtic Park on September 20.

Rangers managed to keep pace with a 1-0 win over St Mirren, thanks to a late goal from Macedonian forward Bojan Miovski, who scored his second goal of the season in the dying seconds of normal time. However, Rangers will be without key players Lawrence Shankland, who is sidelined for three to four months due to a hamstring injury, and Portuguese striker Youssef Chermiti, who is out long-term with a knee problem.
