CD Projekt Red says Songs of the Past will 'complete' The Witcher 3 story with Dandelion at its center — 'This is part of The Wild Hunt, and it felt like a chapter was missing'

CD Projekt Red announced that Songs of the Past, the third and final expansion for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, will serve as the completion to the game's story by putting Dandelion, Geralt's bard friend, in the spotlight. In an interview with TechRadar Gaming at Gamescom, Jakub Rokosz, Fool's Theory CEO and Songs of the Past game director, clarified that the expansion doesn't intend to serve as a bridge to a potential The Witcher 4, but rather concludes the Wild Hunt story.

Rokosz emphasized the importance of giving Dandelion the proper spotlight he deserves, noting that Dandelion is a complex and intelligent character beyond his comedic relief role. Senior quest designer Despoina Anetaki added that while the 11-year gap between the base game and the expansion is unusual, the team's priority is to deliver a complete story, noting that it doesn't matter when the expansion arrives, as long as it's meaningful.

The expansion will take players to Letten, the bard's homeland, and delve into Dandelion's past, family, and the world he grew up in. The team's research began with the original Witcher novels, and the expansion aims to excite both fans and the developers alike. As of now, Songs of the Past doesn't have a release date, but it's scheduled to launch in 2027, with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered arriving this month on September 29.
