Body of man recovered from Ogembo building collapse

The body of 21-year-old Steve Javan Okeyo was recovered from the debris of a collapsed building in Ogembo, Kisii County, on September 8, 2026, according to rescue teams. The young man suffered multiple injuries and was taken to the Gucha Sub-County Morgue for further examination. The rescue operation continued, with emergency teams searching for other possible victims.

The building had collapsed due to heavy rainfall in the region. Initially, police reported that at least six individuals, including a child, were present in the building at the time of the incident. In another tragic event, a confrontation between two brothers in Trans Nzoia turned deadly. On August 5, 2026, Nelson Wanundu allegedly started a physical altercation with his brother, Isaack Walumoli, following a disagreement.

Wanundu was taken to Brown’s Hospital for medical treatment but was pronounced dead upon arrival. His body was subsequently moved to Kiminini Cottage Mission Hospital Mortuary, awaiting autopsy. However, as the situation became increasingly dire, Walumoli was nowhere to be found. Detectives from DCI Kiminini initiated an intelligence-led operation to locate him, eventually apprehending him in Kitale Town. Walumoli is currently in custody at Kiminini Police Station, awaiting further legal proceedings.
