Beyond Fest Returns to Los Angeles with Guests Including M. Night Shyamalan, Michael Mann, Robert Eggers, and Many More

Renowned filmmaker Michael Mann is set to unveil a fresh take on his 2006 film Miami Vice at Beyond Fest in Los Angeles on October 3, 2026. This new version, titled Miami Vice: Director’s Final Cut, is described as "Michael Mann's new cut" and will be presented in 4K resolution. The Beyond Fest website does not specify the running time of this edition, but it is clear that it differs from the 2008 release of Miami Vice: Unrated Director’s Edition.

The Unrated Director's Edition is a re-edited version of the film, incorporating scenes that were cut during the theatrical release and featuring new music cues. Michael Mann himself remarked that this particular edition brings the film closer to the tone of the original TV series, which he executive produced but did not create.

This change helps to soften some of the criticisms directed at the original film, which had a fundamental flaw despite its opening with an offshore speedboat race set against the Miami skyline and scored with electronic music.

The fate of the film's lead actor, Jamie Foxx, added another layer of complexity to the production. Foxx's abrupt departure from the set in the Dominican Republic during filming forced Mann to alter the movie's ending. Despite its initial box office success, Miami Vice ultimately proved to be a commercial and critical failure. However, the film has gained a cult following and critical reappraisal over the past two decades.

A big screen reboot, Miami Vice '85, directed by Joseph Kosinski, is set to hit theaters on May 19, 2028, starring Michael B. Jordan and Austin Butler.
