Bengaluru vet clinic raided over alleged procedures on dogs without anaesthesia

On Tuesday, the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) and police conducted a raid on a veterinary clinic in Doddakannelli, near Bellandur, following allegations of unauthorized orthopaedic procedures and euthanasia of street dogs. Animal rights activists accused Primecare Vet Hospital, previously known as Anicure, of conducting such procedures on street dogs, allegedly fracturing their legs without proper anaesthesia.

They further claimed that some animals died following the procedures and were disposed of. The clinic was raided after activists presented purported video evidence of animal cruelty to the authorities. A case has been registered, and an investigation initiated, stated Deputy Commissioner of Police Saidulu Adavath, adding that two veterinary doctors have been questioned.

The clinic's officials were not available for comment. Activists found 12 dogs and a cat on the clinic's premises, with four street dogs needing immediate medical attention, six Indie dogs requiring treatment, and three others rescued before their leg injuries became irreversible. An unsterilised Cane corso and a husky were also found.

A cat was shifted to another clinic after its owner could not be contacted, and owners of other animals were asked to collect them from the clinic. The activists accused one of the clinic's doctors of similar experiments at the veterinary college in Hebbal, alleging that dogs were handled and transported in a manner amounting to severe cruelty, with dog catchers reportedly paid around Rs 500 per dog for injuring the animals.
